How to Wash Embroidered Clothes to Prevent Damage and Fading

High-Quality Embroidery Deserves Gentle Care. Follow These Tips to Keep Your Custom Gear Looking Fresh.

A great piece of embroidered clothing can last for years. To maintain the 3D texture and vibrant colors while preventing snags or fading, check out this professional care guide.

  1. Turn Inside Out & Bag It
Before washing, always turn the garment inside out. This reduces friction between the embroidery and the machine drum or other clothes. We highly recommend using a mesh laundry bag—it’s the best defense against snags.
  1. Go Gentle on the Cycle
Stick to cold water or warm water below 30°C (86°F) and select the "Gentle" or "Wool" cycle. Avoid heavy spin cycles, as intense force can warp the fabric or loosen the threads.
  1. Skip the Bleach & High Heat
Never use bleach; it will fade your threads instantly. After washing, lay flat or hang to dry in the shade. Try to avoid high-heat dryer settings, as extreme heat can damage the thread fibers and kill the shine.
  1. Ironing Like a Pro
If you need to iron, turn the garment inside out and place a thin cloth over the embroidered area. Never press the iron directly onto the stitches, or you’ll flatten that beautiful 3D texture.
